Public Transportation
Bus and air service are the predominant
means of public transportation. Most
citizens rely on private vehicles for trans-
portation to travel throughout the county
which contains 656 square miles and is
the state's 32nd largest county.
Bus Service
With three buses, The Presque Isle County Council on Aging (PICCA) is the major provider of bus service in the
county. The general public as well as senior citizens and handicap persons may use the buses. Bus service is
provided on a demand/response basis in addition to regularly scheduled out of town trips. The Straits Area
Regional Ride provides service as in Presque Isle County as well as three neighboring counties and coordinates
buses for regional access to medical appointments, employment, shopping, entertainment and other regional
destinations.
Indian Trails provides statewide public transportation services to and from Detroit and St. Ignace on a daily
basis running through Presque Isle County with stops in Rogers City and Onaway.
Air Service
The County of Presque Isle owns and operates two public airports. The Leo Getz County Airport (a Tier 3 basic
utility airport) in Onaway includes a 2,600� paved and lighted runway and a 1,365 crosswind sod runway. The County
Airport at Rogers City (Tier 1 general utility) has just completed a $2.5 million renovation and features a 75�
wide, 4,100� runway with new lighting and navigation systems, an on-field automated weather station, new aprons
and taxiways.
Regional air service is available at the Alpena County Regional Airport and the Pellston Regional Airport.
Commercial air service is provided by Mesaba Airlines operating as Northwest Airlink to and from Detroit Metro
Airport three times daily.
Deep Water Ports
The Port of Calcite in Rogers City and the Port of Stoneport in Presque Isle Township are major commercial port
facilities for Great Lakes and International shipping.
